Northern Lights

Iceland Moments

Experience the northern lights!

The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis are on most travellers bucket list and you are probably wondering what is the best way to see them? what´s the best way to experience them? what do I need to keep in mind.

Well the most common way for travellers in Iceland to see them is going on a so called northern lights hunt, this can be in a group on a bus or with a private driver guide. Usually you would be taken out of the city lights and depending on cloud coverage each night that will be the decisive factor in which way you are headed.

What I would like to introduce to you is what we call "a northern lights experience" this is a concept we came up with, because when working as a tour guide I personally experienced too many northern lights hunts when no lights showed and people just had a pretty dull night sitting in the car waiting for the lights to show and got nothing.

The northern lights experiences we do offers our client the chance to have a great night no matter what, so this way you are always going to have a great night, if the northern lights show then it just becomes even better!

I´ll give you an example of the experiences I´m talking about.

Hvammsvík nature baths & Northern lights

You will be picked up by your Private Guide at your hotel in the evening. The guide will take you directly to Hvalfjörður (Valley close to Reykjavík) you will begin by sitting down at their restaurant for the signature seafood soup, Home made bread & some drinks.

Next you will go change to your swimwear and enjoy the wonderful facilities, they have 8 different hot pools that evolve into the ocean.

You are getting in just as it´s getting dark, so you have a chance to see the northern lights right from the hot pools.

On the way back to Reykjavík your guide will make some stops to increase the chances of you seeing the lights.
